This lovely formation appeared on the 5th of June in a field of green barley close to Mere in Wiltshire. It measures approximately 120ft and is an elaborate 10-fold star contained within a ring. It is, as yet, perhaps the most complex formation of the 2016 season.
The landscape surrounding this formation
is littered with ancient tumuli and is not far form White Sheet Castle, a neolithic hill fort where crop circles have appeared before.
As always seems to be the case, the geometry of this formation was surprising and novel. It contains two different 10-pointed stars – that when they combine create the very attractive shard-like shapes. These shard-like shapes have been seen in several other formations over the
years, often a byproduct of the construction of certain stars.
