We Take Our First Photo Flight of 2016. Silbury Hill Wiltshire. Stage 2.
Image
As the weather started to deteriorate after a long spell of very good conditions, we took to the air knowing that there were thunderstorms in our path as we tried to photograph the three formations that were out there waiting for us. It was tricky, and as one of the formations was a fair distance away from the other two, in the end it took us nearly two hours to obtain what we wanted. Unfortunately it was an expensive flight as cloud obscured the sun on many occasions. But we got there in the end.

This formation began life as a 50ft double ringed circle in barley and was reported on the 28th of May. However, it was reported on the 4th of June that this formation had been added to (or had mutated) into a new design. The photo above shows Stage 2 of the design.

This  formation looks deceptively simple in design. But when on the drawing board it was devilish-tricky. The folding crescents around the outside of the formation are something we have seen several times in crop circle design and are always graceful and elegant.

This lovely formation appeared on the 5th of June in a field of green barley close to Mere in Wiltshire. It measures approximately 120ft and is an elaborate 10-fold star contained within a ring. It is, as yet, perhaps the most complex formation of the 2016 season.
The landscape surrounding this formation is littered with ancient tumuli and is not far form White Sheet Castle, a neolithic hill fort where crop circles have appeared before.
As always seems to be the case, the geometry of this formation was surprising and novel. It contains two different 10-pointed stars – that when they combine create the very attractive shard-like shapes. These shard-like shapes have been seen in several other formations over the years, often a byproduct of the construction of certain stars.
