New formation to report
Forest Hill, nr Marlborough, Wiltshire. UK.
Reported 16th July
This magnificent and masterful crop circle appeared close to Forest Hill, Marlborough. Undoubtedly the most spectacular formation of the season!
Insomnia played its part in enabling us to get up in the air to photograph this wonderful formation. Checking out Facebook at 3am in the morning might seem rather sad, but when you can't sleep, its the ideal thing to do at this time of the year as you might pick up some information about the latest crop circle to appear!
Upon checking email, there was an email about a formation found on the 16th of July close to Marlborough. There was also an update from the Silent Circle on Facebook about this new event. There was also a photograph taken from a drone.
So it was time to plan a flight over this new formation at the unearthly time of 3am in the morning! Luckily we managed to get into the air at 10.30am and flew over the formation to photograph it. We were amazed by what we saw!
Unfortunately, later we were to hear that the formation was cut out by the farmer. But many were able to visit on the ground and a few got into the air to record this spectacular event.
All our work recording the crop circles is self-financed. The yearly cost of flights over the circles alone runs into many thousands of pounds.
A one-hour flight costs just over £500.00. The sale of our photographs, Year Books and other items via our on-line shop helps to offset some of that cost, but with increasing overheads across the board of our activities, it is becoming more and more difficult to find the finance we need to record the circles.

On the Drawing Board
Karen has been working away on exploring the geometry of some of this years crop circles...
Badbury Rings, Dorset. 17th June
The challenging part of drawing this formation was the labyrinthine design in the two upper quadrants of the semi-circle.
The formation also contained a hidden Golden Section ratio!
Sixpenny Handley, Dorset. 29th June
This next formation was based on a central pentagram (five-pointed star). However, the formation is divided ten to create five extra arms on which the crescent moons were placed. As you can see from the extra circles drawn in, these invisible circle help place and size other components of the pattern - although they did not appear in the field!
Long Man of Wilmington, Sussex. 3rd July
Circles and pentagons combine to create this lovely design; the interior of each giving dimension to the next, to an iteration of 4. A pentagram lies at the centre. No measurements were needed to recreate this entirely self-generating pattern.
The ink-lines in this image show the geometry perfectly.
Charlton, Wiltshire. 8th July
The Charlton formation worked on a similar principle to the Long Man of Wilmington formation (above). This time triangles and circles were combined to create the design.
Note the design is put together using the apex of the triangle and the width of the rings to anchor the design in place.
