One New Circle, a New Blog and...
Hi everyone,

We have one new circle to show you and a brand new blog entry...

News...

1. New Circle at Kingstone Coombes, Oxon. Reported 9th June 2011. Barley.

This circle was reported on the 9th of June, and is located at Kingstone Coombs, Oxon - close to the Uffington area.

Once again, the geometry of this circle seems unfinished, or impaired. It has inspired a mixed response from the circles community from those that think it reflects the negativity that has surrounded the subject (in some quarters) of late. To those who dismiss it as a messy hoax.

I have to say, that I am of the school of thought that considers all events in a season important on some level - no matter their origins. Mercurious, that trickster god of synchronicity and irony seems ever present alongside the crop circles, meaning that you can't take anything for granted - even that which you think you know!

So we put this formation before you for your due consideration!

As you can see one of the three arms in the centre is different. Is this a mistake, or intentional. Is it meaningless or symbolic?

While I was contemplating this circle I decided, rather than draw it this time I would use Photoshop to idealise the geometry of the formation on Steve's overhead shot. Usually I would do this on the drawing board to help me understand the shapes, but this time I thought I'd do something different. When I was finished I posted the image on the internet clearly labeling the image to say what had been done with it.

I did not imply that the original was wrong, but just that I had idealised the geometry.

I am fascinated by the response to it. Many were clearly upset that I had done this, but why? Why is my clearly labeled image different to a diagram showing the same thing? I feel a new blog coming on!

Here is the image for you to see for yourself...

2. Flight Fund Appeal - Now Urgent

We continue to need financial help to continue our flying this summer and it is fast becoming critical.

Although there have been relatively few circles this summer the costs of our flights to record them have been enormous.

We realise that the financial climate is having an effect on a lot of you too, but if anyone can help by making a donation no matter how small to our flight fund, or by making a purchase from our online store it would help us enormously.

Without your urgent help and support we will not be able to continue.

We deeply appreciate all your donations and purchases - without you we just couldn't continue...

THANK-YOU!

Obeying the rules? But who wrote them?!

Karen looks at the Hannington formation, in the latest catch-up blog looking at the crop circles of the 2011 season so far...

"Clearly, this crop circle obeyed one of the fundamental (but unwritten) rules of crop circle lore - it was geometrically sound. Yet even so, this circle was not to escape criticism, apparently it did not adhere to another of these unwritten rules - that all 'real' crop circles are near perfect inside. The Hannington circle, it was reported, was 'messy' inside.

I was momentarily upset by this. I'm a big fan of Messi. But then happily I found I was thinking about something else completely.

But I do wonder who 'wrote' these rules? Who decided what level of damage is not acceptable, or even that 'real' circles have little or no damage? I also, from time to time, wonder where the evidence or research is to back up the validity of these rules we so liberally apply?"
