The magnificent jewel-like star that appeared at Chisbury Ring in 2010 will be the focus for our Jan/Feb course. The faceted marriage of five and ten-fold geometry in the design is simply sublime. It’s both a powerful image and an incredibly beautiful one. 

The location of this crop circle was also fascinating. Chisbury Ring in Wiltshire UK, is the ancient site of a ringed earthwork, but in later times it also became the site of a tiny Catholic chapel, that served the spiritual needs of its congregation. The chapel is long abandoned, but its shell is still open to visitors.The sense of the sacred still palpable within its walls. 

From one of the windows of the chapel you could see the crop circle gently lying in the field beyond, however, what was truly magical was that the broken stone tracery of the now glassless window, resembled the form of the virgin herself – the sunlight of the day making the figure luminous – the blue of the sky and the green of the fields beyond almost like a new and modern stained glass. Steve captured a photo of three small children sat on the ledge of the window looking out, the deep shadows on the inside the of chapel created a vision of children sat at the feet of the numinous virgin, looking out over the crop circle – utter magic.

The addition of the 2010 crop circle to the local landscape created a holy trinity of sacred sites at Chisbury – The Earthwork (now wooded over), the Chapel and the Crop Circle – forming a golden thread of spiritual lineage, from the Iron age, through the middle ages to the present day. The story of the crop circle accentuates the power of symbolic markings/spaces on the landscape that has been part of human culture from its earliest times. This will make a powerful crop circle to focus upon for our course.
